Zdenek Bakala, himself a life-time devotee of cycling, took over the Deceuninck - Quick-Step Cycling Team in 2010. The team competes in the World Tour, the world’s top series of cycling races. From the time it was founded in 2003 in Belgium, the team is keeping a place among the world’s cycling elite. Among its members are also Czech cyclists Zdenek Stybar and Petr Vakoc.
The sport centre Bakala Academy, located at the KU Leuven campus in Belgium, stimulates improvement in sports training and performance using some of the most recent scientific advances in sport sciences. The Academy contributes to the promotion of fair-play in a doping-free sports environment, where each individual is stimulated to develop his or her physical fitness and performance level from a perspective of personal well-being and health improvement.
